A structured mentorship program I enrolled in to build foundational skills in Unreal Engine through hands-on UI replication. Rather than building from scratch, the approach of reverse-engineering existing game interfaces provided a deep, practical understanding of how production-level game UI systems are architected and executed.
What was covered:
Widgets & UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics)
Constructed complex UI layouts using Unreal's native widget system, learning hierarchy, anchoring, and responsive design within the engine.
Event Graphs & Blueprint Logic
Implemented interactive UI behaviors through Blueprint visual scripting, connecting UI elements to game state and player events.
Materials & Shaders
Developed custom materials applied to UI components, exploring VFX and shader logic to replicate the visual fidelity of the reference games.
Resident Evil Requiem
Returnal (WIP)
All UI replications presented in this case are recreations made for educational purposes only, with no commercial intent. All original designs belong to their respective owners.
